Here is a RARE 1993 MAZDA RX7-R1 Twin Turbo with 5 speed Manual Trans, in
Black w/ Black interior and one owner history. Very Rare Collector Car that
has never been abused and has all original paint.
This RX7 has 15,100 original miles and has never been modified. Very
rare to find this color combination, R1, one owner, and this low of mileage.
It wasn't until editing the photos that a slight dip in the center of the front bumper appears. It is definitely more pronounced in the photos than in real life, as we never even noticed when viewing the vehicle. I suspect this is due to the bumper being PVC and over the years has slightly flexed. When we received the car the front plate was installed and there were no signs of damage to the plate, brackets, or anywhere inside the engine bay indicating the dip in the front bumper is from any type of impact. All paint is original, with the exception of having the rear wing removed and repainted due to two large chips in it.
The RX7 R-1 was designed for those searching for the ultimate performance from their RX-7. The R1 package adds body spoilers and dual oil coolers, but also eliminates the leather seats and sunroof for weight savings. Weighing 190 pounds less than its predecessor at slighting above 2,800 lbs and offering 50/50 weight distribution, the powerful and redesigned third generation RX-7 is a performance machine.
The good news about this car is it sat in the garage of an older gentleman for 15 years seldom being driven. The bad news is upon receipt the exterior was quite oxidized and rough. The RX7 paint actually had a factory recall on it due to not holding up well. The dealership that conducted the inspection indicated the car might need a repaint to become "vibrant" again. In lieu of a repaint we spent $1,500 with one of the best detailers in town who wet sanded the entire car. When we picked it up we were shocked how it looked. As captured in the most recent photos below, the car looks unbelievable--I dare say even better than new, aside from a couple flaws here that are too insignificant to show up in the photos.
To be quite honest, we are into this car for more than anticipated due to being overly anal and wanting to make the car as perfect as possible. If we don't get an offer in the upper $20's I am fine with just keeping it since it is so rare to come across such a low mileage black/black R1 that is one owner and all original. For some reason I can just sit and stare at this car and get enjoyment from it--yes it takes a certain type to understand this! I paid $20k for it and am into the car currently for between $24 and $25k. Here is the break down of my cost in the car:
- $20,000 paid for vehicle
- $1700 transportation
- $144. for Dealership inspection with compression check
- $1,500 for detail including wet sanding the entire car--no joke, but it took a lot to get the paint back to new or better and saved repainting the car, which I wanted to avoid). Paint on the RX7's is known for fading and looks like glass now!
- $450 in having the dent wizard remove some very slight ripples here and there.
- $225 for new windshield wipers (arms & blades-Mazda rips you off for these!)
- $150 to replace the driver side door lock (It was sticky--these are a known problem)
- $200 New Front Lip
A dealership inspection with compression test was recently completed. The results can be seen below:
This vehicle comes with all the original manuals, keys, and even the original window sticker, as viewed below:
Debuted in 1993, Motor Trend named the RX7 the "1993 Import Car of the Year" and had this to say about the car: "The RX-7's performance is awe-inspiring: It's within one foot of being the shortest-stopping street car we've ever tested; out-accelerates anything that doesn't have a third more horsepower (and many that do); reaches 160 mpg in less than three miles; and grips the road harder than the best race cars of only a few years ago. Yet considering this phenomenal performance, most said it was easy to control on the track, and fun to drivve on the street..."
The third generation Mazda RX-7 was available only as a
two-door hatchback. Under the hood is a twin-sequential turbocharged 13B-REW
rotary engine producing an astonishing 255 horsepower. A five speed manual
transmission and all four corners have Anti-Lock disc brakes. Safety was
improved with the introduction of a drivers-side airbag.
Below are a few photos which were taken as soon as the vehicle was
unloaded from the transport carrier and is extremely dirty due to being
unloaded in the rain. Click on any photo to view a high resolution
version of the same photo. We will post new/additional photos once the
car has been detailed, as well as a detailed description of the condition of
the vehicle:
